The application of mp-MRI in prostate cancer diagnosis

In diagnosing prostate cancer, obtaining a histopathological diagnosis through biopsy is crucial. With the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology, a series of multiparametric MRI (mp-MRI)-guided biopsy techniques have emerged, aiding in the precise diagnosis of prostate cancer.mp-MRI-guided biopsies help in the precise diagnosis of prostate cancer.

CompleteA complete mp-MRI includes several key pulse sequences, such as T2-weighted imaging to assess lesion size and the anatomical relationship between the lesion and surrounding tissues (prostatic capsule, seminal vesicles); T1-weighted imaging to understand the vascular distribution of prostate lesions; and diffusion-weighted imaging to provide information on cell density and the diffusion properties of water molecules in the tissue. mp-MRI has become an important tool for evaluating and diagnosing focal prostate cancer, and mp-MRI-guided biopsies have become an important method for diagnosing prostate cancer. This also compensates for the over-detection of indolent prostate cancer by other biopsy techniques and improves the detection rate of aggressive prostate malignancies.
